Kennedy Ibe: The Fluidity of a Stomach Politician

The incidents of the last few weeks in Imo state have seen about 20 lawmakers pitching tent with the APC, just because of the coming of Hope Uzodinma as governor. Suddenly, and Apc has become such big fanimorous bride.

These incidents, especially the crosscarpetting, speak of lack in substance in the thinking of our politicians and worse still, they reflect the kind of leadership we should expect from them. Many of the house members are culpable of this act, but I'd pick out the member representing Obowo LGA for obvious reasons.

Before his inglorious defection, like a fledgling leaf just battling for balance in the face of a gentle breeze, to the APC, Kennedy Ibe had come up with plethora of justification- all wishy washy.

Even before his needless explanations as to the reason he had to jump ship while he was yet finalizing his contemplation of seeking gravity in the PDP -party of the ousted governor, it was clear the kind of politician he was- the characterless jobman politicker who had no single purpose of being in the adventure than for self and pocket.

A brief reminder of the political personage of this (dis)Honourable member, who in a great unfortunacy to the people of Obowo, is their representative in the hallowed chamber of the Imo state House of Assembly.

Kennedy Ibe had been a bag carrier for the then State commissioner of finance, Deacon Chike Okafor, who many could describe as one politician who cares for his people and is largely loved at the grassroot. It was strongly under the banner of Okafor's goodwill that the political apprentice vied for the state Assembly seat and won.

On his part, Chike Okafor contested for the Federal House of  Representatives seat, and with such a widespread momentum won the election to represent the people of Okigwe South. The collaboration was so incidental and one which crucially worked. That was in 2015 and under the banner of APC.

The election of 2019 saw both men seeking for reelection. While Chike Okafor recontested under the same banner of APC, same was not of Kennedy Ibe, who seemingly pitched tent with the Action Alliance. Immediate past governor Okorocha's in-law had been the party's candidate with the untrammelled support of the former, and so the vibe was obviously high there.

It should be noted how one stood firmly with his party despite what happened (for really so many things happened to have denied him his slot). But the other ran from pillar to post in a manner characteristic of elements lacking in stability, albeit carrying his justification. Though he finally won, it was obvious that the victory was tasteless unlike that of Chike Okafor because it was obvious Kennedy Ibe lacked ideology.

In a dramatic subterfuge that would further reveal the fluidity of Kennedy Ibe, his party lost the gubernatorial position to the opposition PDP. That was not a point to prove himself differently, but it was a moment that pushed him to further show how shameless a political jobber he is.

The seven months period of the Ihedioha's administration saw him slimely crawling, seeking for a relevance which he doesn't exude. For all practicality, Mr Ibe had returned to the PDP (because that was where the vibe was), for he was just tying the knot of his defection from the Action Alliance to the PDP when the unexpected happened. He gave rationale for his premeditated step, yet again.

How did he feel?

He felt normal, just as easily as any political 'waka-about'. The turn of events, whether it was something to gently call him to introspection was not something to prevaricate on. The very thing clearly obvious was that Kennedy Ibe, forgot the myriads of reasons that he'd claimed made him 'return' to the PDP- his purported 'family' and returned to the APC- the party currently with the vibe- and with even more stronger justifications for doing so.

What could be seen of these three attempts of jumping ship by the (dis)Hon. Kennedy Ibe? It is that within a space of 10months, the wriggling politician has had counter rationales to twerk in AA, paddle in PDP and cruise in APC. Indeed, what could a mind so observant and discretionary make of them?

Your answer could pointedly reveal them.

But really, politics is not about self and what could be made therefrom. The very place of politics and which essentially defines it is for the commitment of the self to the service of the people. The individual, who has set out on the journey to impress service on the people through this means must be very definitive as to what to offer.

The one must be able to sell themselves on this definitive stand, and if given the mandate, should express that which made them loved and elected by the people. Something so central must define the individual politician and such a politician so windy and without an ideology to stand for can fall for anything just for self. Such is not worthy of trust for service.

Kennedy Ibe lacks the stability of a politician with ideology; he's shown how he can fall easily for any enticement and hence is not worthy of impressive service.
