PDP: Does Atiku Stand A Chance?

Today, the 6th of October, the People's Democratic Party, PDP would be having their national convention.

This convention, seen as the summit of the ongoing primaries to elect party candidates for the 2019 general elections, would provide the party the opportunity to elect their presidential flagbearer.

The national convention and the process to get its presidential candidate would be holding in Portharcourt, the Garden city and Rivers state capital.

The choice of Rivers state as convention ground had been enmeshed in somehow swirling controversies that prodded Gov Wike into threatening to unleash fire and brimstone, which similarly had been quelled with the eventual consent of the NWC to the venue.

Among the top contenders out of the almost 17 persons jostling for this top job, three stand to have been weighty and therefore seen to be the ones to make the convention worth its battle and exciting.

These are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former speaker of the lower parliament and governor of Sokoto state Aminu Tambuwal and the former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwanso.

Some pundits may question the absence of Senate President, Bukola Saraki in my list. But I carefully chose not to, because he doesn't appear to be.

Of all the mentioned top fighters, Abubakar Atiku seems to be the person with the more chances of clinching this ticket. His coterie of attributes speaks to this. He's undoubtedly the most popular of all.

The most powerful second citizen in Nigeria as someone rightly noted, Atiku has through his serial attempts for the nation's plum job sold himself into wide cognisance.

Beyond that, the content and quality of his campaign manifesto and jingles, which are thick and studded, speak more louder and more focusing that any of those of his challengers. Atiku, from his nationwide consultations and speeches, seems to be as one prepared than the others, for the job he seeks.

By and large, the odds in today's PDP's presidential primaries seem to favour the Wazirin Adamawa. PDP would do a fatalistic error not to consider this one personality that can give the incumbent run for his money.
