Fr Tanko and the Brazen Insanity

AIn a spree that would seem as though the target of the marauding killers in recent days has become priests- Catholic priest, another clergyman Fr David Tanko was today reportedly murdered in Takum, Taraba state. His killers had ambushed him on his way back from a peace meeting and attacked him.
The death of Fr Tanko, aside from being so unfortunate, is one so barbaric and callous. The Reverend gentleman was not only butchered by his killers but was found to be an object to burn and roast.
I cannot find a better way to condemn this evil act or to find a more convenient way to look at it. But as eerie as this dastardly act is and as unsteady as I could be at its news, I stand to utterly condemn it for what it is. The idea of killing someone and human created by God couldn't be such a thing to hold unto with calmness, much more to have treated that body with disdain.
The death of Fr Tanko brings to the fore how porous our security system is, and this is one that continue to push further and more extensively the ember of fear and apprehension. People are already gripped with fear of various means; and what the recurrence of killing incidences does is to push them off limits of hold.
The truth of the matter is that, in this country, nobody again seems to be safe. The sense of calmness could no longer be there, because it is just a matter of time and the thrall catches up. There's no longer the feeling of safety, because even the one who feels he's not a victim or not within the area of primary impact, cannot say with assurance that such would be the situation tomorrow or next.
It is a pity that Fr David Tanko has to be killed and in such dehumanising and grotesque manner. For an individual who stepped out to find way for the peaceful resolution of a crisis, such is not the smallest deserving gift. I pray that he finds eventually the reward for peacemakers: may he be accepted as one of the sons of God.

And in the same vein, I call on the necessary agencies and institutions of government to swing into action and fish out those who committed this draconic and heartless act against the cleric. What the soul of Fr Tanko and indeed all Nigerians want from this incident is justice for the dead and loved ones and the assurance that no one can carry out such barbarism and go scot free.
