Kobe Bryant and the lesson of death

Life is a journey, one very ephemeral. This is a truism we've become used to. Each day, by the events and circumstances that inundate us, we are faced with this reality that it's become so real and so undeniable. Events come to an end, so do programs and plans. Very remarkably, and in such a manner that we might not readily accept and wish to deny, the life that we live and cherish also comes to end- sometimes in a way not too desirable even if we can't wish away.

That's life: so short and so wishful.

The news of the death of Kobe Bryant- one of Basketball's stars and legends is one so shocking and also reminiscent of the truism about the ephemerality and the unfortunateness of life. It speaks very greatly of how essentially life should be lived, at least understanding the irrefutable facts that underlies same.

Kobe's commitment to the path he's chosen stood him out as a personality to be reckoned with. Such was his commitment that he's regarded as a legend in the sport of Basketball. Kobe, 41 was able to live a life so impressive and remarkable- proving his mettle in his chosen carrier. It's very heartwarming to realize that the life he lived, though short-lived, was momentous in the records and remarkable inspirations it was able to impress.

5-time NBA chambion, 2-time Olympics gold medalist and an Oscar, yes an Oscar- for short animated movie. These together with his imprints on mentorship and charitable engagements were such applauding and inspiring.

It's unfortunate that Kobe, so young and bright, had to leave at this particular point. Kobe's demise was not a loss just to his immediate family and the NBA's but to the entire people of the world who cherish his hardwork. At the end, we all live once, oblivious of the time and circumstances of our passing. But that by themselves do not matter or count as much as what the essence the life was able to create.

Very applauding, it was, to hear of the news of the resignation of the minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun. It's very commendable because it is one act very rare in this our clime. It just seems that the penchant for relevance and money has denied the vast majority of the people that essential sense of integrity. That denial is one that has brought about the desire to cling unto power even in the midst of opprobrious criticism to just step down. We've had several instances were public officials formed deaf ears to scathing allegations against their persons and offices until some powers force them out.
