TBAN: One million Signatures To Reform Our Electoral Process.

Some weeks ago, a social movement geared at improving our disproportionate political system, To Build A Nation (TBAN) gave the indication that it was embarking on a campaign to raise one million petitions that would effectively stir the discourse for drastic electoral reforms. TBAN is convened by Prof Kingsley Moghalu, a former deputy governor of Nigeria's apex bank.

The call for the implementation of major reforms in the electoral process has practically begun with the signing of the one million petitions, which is the real-time call for eligible individuals across the nation to stand up and impress the clamour for change in our current electoral sysem.

This petitions, which would galvanise many Nigerians, would subsequently be submitted to the two chambers of the National Assembly. It is aimed at stimulating in the legislators the need to see beyond just the high-flying clamour, the urgency and the sense of necessity in the Nigerian populace to see that the electoral process as we have it should be amended.

Nigerians are tired of the system of voting and the eventual processes of transmitting and announcing of results. It is very disturbing that passionate Nigerians would come out with huge enthusiasm at each voting process to cast their votes and at the end have them not counted because of the obvious shenanigans that happen along the way to deny them of the choice of leaders. Very unfortunate too is the dispassion in even more to heed to the call to vote.

All the above stem from the distrust that the skewed electoral process has impinged on them.

Major demands that this petition seeks are that the entire voting process be digitized. From voters' accreditation and voting proper up to the collation and transmission of results, these should be done electronically, relieving human interference and ensuring that credibility reigns.

Destinations start with the proces of journey. It is my believe that the process that has been set in motion now by the effective galvanization of concerned citizens to beyond clamour make stout demand for #ElectoralReform would eventually bear the fruit of a nation anchored on true democracy defined by the progressive will of the masses.

Of a truth, the process to this journey might not come immediately or easily, but the setting in motion-is believed would lead to the desired change. You are encouraged to be part of this movement for a better electoral process that would make votes genuinely count.
