IPOB, A militant Terrorist Group-DHQs

The Nigerian Defense Headquarters (DHQ), Friday, declared the separatist movement headed by Nnamdi Kanu, Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) a 'militant terrorist organization'.

Citing
reasons that ranged from what it said were open confrontations with the army, illegal mounting of road blocks to extort money from innocent citizens, among others the DHQ said it came to the conclusion following analyses and reports which places the group as a violent one.

The Defence Director of Information, Major General John Enenche, while making a press statement said that, contrary to the feeling which IPOB has consistently passed, the group has shown to be violent and arms-wielding.

Enenche advised all that have anything to do with the group to heed the warning or face the consequences that arise from aligning with a terror group. He also called on parents to dissuade their wards from identifying with the group.

He said, “After due professional analysis and recent developments, it has become expedient to notify the general public that the claim by IPOB actors that the organisation is non-violent is not true.

“Hence, the need to bring to public awareness the true and current state of IPOB.

“In this regard, some of their actions, clandestinely and actively, that have been terrorising the general public include:

“The formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads and extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.

“Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles, among others) on a military patrol on Sept. 10, 2017.

“Physical confrontation of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on Sept. 11, 2017 and also attempt to snatch their rifles.

“Attack by IPOB members on a military check point on Sept. 12, 2017, at Isialangwa, where one IPOB actor attempted to snatch a female soldier’s rifle.’’

“From the foregoing, the Armed Forces of Nigeria wish to confirm to the general public that IPOB from all intent, plan and purpose as analysed, is a militant terrorist organisation.’’

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra has rejected the tag of a terrorist organization slammed on them by the army. Speaking in a telephone interview, Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of the self-acclaimed leader wondered why an organization that has not wielded arms or resorted to violence be tagged a terror group.

The IPOB, a brainchild of Nnamdi Kanus Radio Biafra has been championing for the rebirth of the Republic of Biafra, citing the relegation and marginalization of the South-east, the region it claims to be the bulk of its territory.
