Immanuel: The Unusual Christmas!

Just a day to Christmas, and yet it smells like there's no Christmas; not in sight, no feel nor in sound!

There were times, and it seems so long time ago- we do not search for Christmas, Christmas itself reminded us of its presence, by its signifying sights and sounds.

Is it the ''Jingle Bells'' and the ''Feliz navidazes'' and the ''So This is Christmas'' that not only fed you with the excitement of the moment but very strongly reminded you that it was indeed Christmas that's got all the feelings?

Is it the Christmas rendezvous as cursorily and very loudly sold out by the radio stations of the funfairs and yuletide shows to be hosted for families and especially children? Father Christmas, of course, was the spice and the very credible reminder for the kids that indeed it was Christmas.

Is is the new clothes, shoes and dresses that were very customary to the kids (and some adults) that Christmas is here and needed to be celebrated in special ways than not only just sound but in display and appearances?

Fireworks, bangers, knockouts and the likes where the very definitive elements of Christmas. No other seasons or periods of the year had such cacophonies of sprinkling rains of thundering lightning and cackling sounds as does Christmas.

Indeed, there was no denying the time and moment of Christmas. That was times ago!

Unfortunately, the story today has changed and our darling Christmas is no longer the same: the agile, vibrant and excitatory moment that awakens ..our joie de vivre. Christmas has grown cold and disconnected, not just for the adults but for the children alike. Everyone seems to have lost that integral, innate sense of Christmas that's naturally ignited immediately we set into December, sometimes even much more earlier.

Although so many factors could be attributed for this rather debilitating turn of events, whether correct or incorrect.

Covid-19 stands tall obviously for the disconnect it has brooded into the human social fabric. For fear of spread, people are advised to stay away and avoid situations of crowd, and we know how tasteless Christmas is without the element of gathering and celebration!

In the midst of this sense of a loss, the reality this deeply reflects is on how human must realize that Christmas isn't all about rendezvous of eating, drinking and showing off of new looks and new arrivals. It is significantly a moment to critically reflect in deep sobriety of how the greatest sacrifice of all- of God becoming man- could have the desired impact in our individual lives.

This should be the real impact: that just as God became man, it is for us to be like him: in actionable love and in personal honesty. For indeed at Christmas very significantly, just like in all times, God is with us, Immanuel!
