Amazon's Bezos Becomes World Richest, Dangote Retains Africa's Spot

Even as the globe had a newest richest man in the person of Jeff Bezos, Africa's richest Aliko Dangote still retained his spot, according to Forbes.

The Chief Executive of Amazon.com Inc was able to unseat Bill Gates of Microsoft to become the richest person in the world. He profited from the meteoric rise in stock of the online commercial business to earn a net fortune of over 90.6 billion dollars.

In what appeared a soaring rise of the online businesses, which saw Facebook and others gaining in massive stock rise, Amazon.com topped in gain by amassing a 1.6 percent rise on.

Although, Africa’s richest man, Nigerian Aliko Dangote dropped to 105th on the 2017 Forbe’s real-time billionaires’ ranking, he maintains the lead in Africa, as the richest man.

Aliko Dangote, who was ranked 51st in 2016 with a net worth of $15.4 billion, currently has a net worth of $12.2 billion, africannews.com reports. The businessman was ranked 37th richest man in the world in 2014 with a net worth of $25 billion.

The decline is attributed to the devaluation of Naira, the Nigerian currency.
