Our Heart, Our Guide

When I come to think about life, the many experiences that I've had and the many things that I have passed through, one thing that comes to mind is the lucidity of the fact that they have sometimes and somehow seem to confirm the thoughts, the imaginations and the fears of my heart. My actions and the results they effect seem to have given credence to the admonitions, suggestions and the reservations of my subconsciousness. They seem to have drawn, urging me by their verifications of the heart why I ought to have followed the mind. To discuss the place of the mind and the need to follow its dictates, I have decided to firstly go the length of defining who and what man essentially is. To be able to understand the relevance of the mind in decision making and as a subtle guide, a good look into what it stands out to be in the man is very important. Man is a being of essence, he is a bearer of life and so a conscious being. Man at best is a body of intelligence, and for this, he&

Trump: Between Democracy And Constitutionality

Image
Of wide acclaim is the inductive definition by America's Abraham Lincoln of democracy. That definition succinctly and aptly captures what is the essence and value of democratic government. But more recently, and in the same United States, this cherished belief was questioned, more severely nailed by the election of Donald Trump. The Republican Donald Trump would be sworn in as the 45th substantive president of the United States after emerging as the preferred candidate of the electoral college of voters against popular majority in the November 8 presidential poll. That decision of the electoral college served Donald Trump that shocking win. It was a political calculus that jolted even the highest of political reasoning that in a democratic combat of points, the fighter with over 2.8 million total votes tally lost out to the rival who walloped her with a paltry 200 restricted votes. The more surprising, however, is the irony of its acceptance as a workable result just because

The prospective corps members are required to provide along the other requirements, medical certificate. The inclusion of medical certificate is suspected to have come up following spates of deaths of corps members who were suspected to be ill on the Zamfara, Kano and Bayelsa camps last year. The NYSC is a government agency that enlist graduates of tertiary institutions into a compulsory scheme, where the young men and women enlisted, serve the n

The Gambia Deadlock: Looking From Jammeh's Perspective

Image
Jammeh with Buhari So much has been said about the December 1, 2016 Gambian Presidential election that saw Adama Barrow defeating the incumbent Yaya Jammeh. M r Barrow, according to the declaration by the nation's electoral body, flopped Yaya Jammeh convincingly to strip him him of a position he has wielded for more than two decades. Indeed, Yaya accepted the result, conceding defeat to his real estate rival. He was applauded for this feat seen as the Achilles's hill of most African rulers lacking and which of recently has started making inroads into the continent. But no soon had he conceded, that Jammeh disputed the poll's result. He hinged his latest move on the claim by the head of the Independent Electoral Commission of the discovery of irregularities. The discussion, as soon as Jammeh made this rather stunning U-turn, shifted from that of commendation of the Gambian elections and of the beauty of democracy to that of grave concern and strong criticism. We Age Along, We Grow By Desire

Biologically, the human being, like every organism respond to the deep calls of nature. Man grows and hungers, he reacts and moves; and all these are functions of the natural inclination to which he responds appropriately. It is so very inherent and a function of natural spontaneity, one that weighs upon man, whether or not he likes it; he grows and consequently age from the very continuous proliferation of cells and the differentiation of tissues. This is one commitment which he has no choice and control over, until the natural halt which itself is brought in death. Growth itself is a natural process. But then, growth also is a matter of choice. While the later falls into the purview of the unquestionable reality that is understandably natural and spontaneous leading to increase in the numbers of age, the later is a concept of similar meaning but which unlike the former is self-regulated and a matter of willful choice. Yes, of willful desire. Growth is a choice, and we grow fro

IMO: The Roads, Yes We Want Them, But Durable.

"What's worth doing, is worth doing well."-Anonymous Ongoing in Imo State is the expansion/rehabilitation, by the state government, of some major roads. The projects, which had earlier started last year in the peak of the rainy season, were, for obvious reasons, put on hold. However, with the gradual exit of the rains, construction workers have been called back to site and the projects seemed just to have resumed in earnest.

To Succeed, Passion Feeds

What is passion? It is the raving of desire. It's an acting of external propulsion that excites the mind, causing it to be invigorated to act willfully.

Chibok Girls – Painful Memories Of A Thousand Days by Oby Ezekwesili

On that 30th April 2014 when diverse citizens gathered to march in solidarity, no one could have imagined that any out of our 219 Chibok Girls abducted from their secondary school in April 2014 would remain in captivity of terrorists 1000 days after the tragedy. One recalls pictures of distressed parents supported by local hunters foraging through the path they were told that the terrorists had hauled away their daughters. Meanwhile, their government was missing in action cynically indifferent to the cries for help. One of the parents said he was desperate to find his daughter by walking off into Sambisa Forest before the Nigeria Army prevented them, because the future of the entire family depended on that daughter finishing school and taking care of her siblings. How can we not be moved by such decisiveness on girls education in a region that topped both then and now, the chart of poor school enrollment and worse parity ratio of four boys for every one girl in school compared to th

US First Lady Makes Inspiring Farewell Speech

Image
The outgoing US first lady, Michelle Obama, was very inspiring as she delivered emotionally what would be her last speech as the wife of president, Friday. "It is our fundamental belief in the power of hope that has allowed us to rise above the voices of doubt and division, of anger and fear that we have faced in our own lives and the life of this country," Obama said. "Our hope that if we work hard enough and believe in ourselves, we can be whatever we dream, regardless of the limitations that others may place on us." Mrs Obama, who had been noted for making intelligent and inspiring talks, seemed to have saved the best for the last, hitting it high and spurring the youths and advising them to go to school and believe in themselves. "When people see us for who we truly are, maybe, just maybe they, too, will be inspired to rise to their best possible selves," Obama said. Speaking to an audience made up of mostly educators, advocates and counsello

LESSONS FROM YESTERDAY: (1) Go The Extra Mile by Anthony Okediran

Facts that you must know: 1. The difference is always in extra efforts. 2. There are no shortcuts to accomplishment. 3. The hard you work the luckier you become.  It is as simple as ABC. 4. A lot confuse distractions for rest. But rest is that which adds value to desire. 5. There is payment system to accomplishment, and this flows naturally as water from a spring. 6. Aspirants must do more to attract desires. (For Cristiano Ronaldo being world best is a desire to take from numerous other aspirants). 7. And edge implies long hours on the training pitch and gyms. Oh! Indeed Great Things Are The Lovely Easy Things

Image
Individually, we're all created separately and with distinct attributes and strengths. The variability of the human nature, if not from anything, could be verified from the observed differences that constitute us and define our specific individuality. The human person is varied in nature, and most prominently, in the manner and form they choose to express what is the core definition of their being. The observed differences of man perfunctorily suggest to be of a great necessity. It is really in the collaboration and culmination of the differences that man is built into the virile entity which he has become, fittingly meeting challenges by the strength driven from the wider amalgamation into a viable force. "Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love."-Saint Mother Teresa Even as it could be creditably said of man's diversity in strength, in weaknesses and in observed attributions, it's significant not to close sight o

Life is a journey better understood, better appreciated by the deep understudy that a gradual, steadily committed step effectively offers. A child in awe The steady yet committed journey of life provides the opportunity to consciously learn and tap from the many vicissitudes and vast resources of life whose knowledge can be accessed by a careful, quiet observation. Thus, in principle, life could be said to require a conscious, committed and effective exertion that's is very gradual, steady and natural, the very forms that meet its 'taste' and which it appreciates. It is such that, in obvious synchronization with the deepest necessities of what is principally life, rewarding actions are those exertions that are offered the consciousness, steadiness and graduality that deep commitments require. No works that entice life and draws from its garlands of appreciative rewards that are hastily taken, supposedly to beat requisition of its gradualness of time, and smacks

Should We Fear Fear? What I Think...

Defray the  defeatist ideology of fear and learn to use fear positively Man is an emotional being, expressing varying emotions, of which fear is and remains a part. No human can evidently deny the presence of fear in them, for with humans, there is always fear. But then what is fear...? Fear is an unpleasant feeling that arises from the perception of danger or failure. It is one feel that is prominent for the following: it kills the spirit, demoralizes the soul and incapacitate the body. It for this that fear is dreaded and oftentimes overtly advised against, the reason that it weakens its subject, holding them in delusive constraint. With fear, the body's will is clogged, with fear the spirit, literally dissipates and the body is pronouncedly deactivated. With the flight of spirit, passion is lost. There's no will, no energy, and the individual's sense of commitment becomes lacking. And what is it? With all these attributes and effects of fear, it must be one nega

For A Young Girl, Her First Abroad Trip Became Fatal

A young Israeli girl had high hopes for the new year, 2017 and wanted to start in a more happy mode. For her, the popular town of Istanbul Turkey would make a good destination. But the young teenager had not the slight idea that as she planned to visit, terror has already perfected its visit to Istanbul, and to her very spot, the Reina Club. According to CNN, Leanne Nasser begged her parents to let her go to Istanbul. She had never been abroad. Never left Israel. Her father refused. He was worried Istanbul wasn't safe and he wanted her to stay home. Despondent, the girl turned to her aunt, Layal Masarweh, who intervened on her behalf. And the father conceded. With her three friends, the 19 year old made her way to the Reina restaurant on the Bosporus in Istanbul. A few hours before midnight, she posted a picture to Snapchat. In it, she flashed a half-smile, a floral crown atop her long, dark hair. Her brown eyes looked straight at the camera.  The following morning -- aft

Gowon, Obasanjo, Ekwueme, Others Join Osinbajo To Sing For Nigeria

Nigeria's Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and some past Nigerian leaders were seen singing hymn in what apparently was a religious gathering for christian past leader, for a greater, united and peaceful Nigeria in the year 2017. In attendance to this gathering which Goodluck Jonathan seemed to be the only one of the folk conspicuously absent, were the former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon; Former President Olusegun Obasanjo; Former Chairman of Nigeria Interim Government, Ernest Shonekan, Former Vice President Alex Ekwueme; Former Chief of Staff, Real Admiral, Ebitu Ukiwe, General Oladipo Diya and the current Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. What were they singing? They were hilariously singing  Isaac Watts hymn, “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past,” Did they sing well? You might need to see the footage to decide.

Here We Have 2017, Oh! It Brings Us Hope

"If you want to reach a goal, you must see the reaching in your own mind before you actually arrive at your goal."-Zig Ziglar It's a great privilege to have been led into the new year, 2017; indeed, it's a thing of utmost joy to be part of the herald of any New Year. What ecstasy, what sense of fulfilment and of effervescing optimism this inspires. The New Year 2017 is new, and in every sense of the word. The year 2017 is replete with the aura of freshness, of 'greenness' that radiates life, energy and highflying optimism. An optimism that is defined by the reality of what's new and has been looked forward to in great anticipation. Very honestly, the year 2017 is a dream come true, it is a moment many have looked forth to experiencing even before it emerged into the scene. It's a time that has for long creeped into our imaginative consciousness, yes and even of those who are unfortunate not to witness its dawn today. We are to be counted very for
