Black Soot Threatens Port Harcourt Residents



An unexplained soot has taken over the sky bed of Port Harcourt, Rivers state, downing black dust on inhabitants.

Residents of the city has taken to twitter to post pictures with the hashtag #StopTheSoot, in expression of protest over the situation and calling on the governments to do something.

Various sources have been blamed for the situation, with some claiming it's the attitude of residents who are prone to burning tyres and rubbers, others blamed it on the actions of construction companies.

 A twitter user, @PolygraphM had tweeted: #stopthesoot CGC Construction Company Along obiri ikwerre Airport link Road has been shut down by RS task force on black soot.

Vanguard reports that the soot appeared in November last year, with clouds becoming a hazy grey causing more people to bewearing protective face masks.

A resident, Tamuno Alobari, said “It (the soot) is mostly pronounced in the morning hours, especially when you run your hands across your car,” he said.Bl


The hitherto Garden city has seen increase in indiscriminate dumping and burning of refuse with increased gas flaring by oil explorers in the oil rich state.
