US Trump Speaks With Nigeria's Buhari, Promises To Fund Anti-terror War

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, today spoke with Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari. The discussion focused on commendation and assurances of mutual cooperation.


While Trump commended his Nigerian counterpart on the some of the successes recorded in the war against insurgency, especially the rescue of some of the Chibok schoolgirls, Mr Buhari congratulated Trump on his victory and inauguration.

In what is seen as the first conversation with Buhari and his first call to any African nations, the controversial US president, whose campaign rhetoric on Africa made the call a surprise, sought on improved bilateral relationship with Africa's giant.

He promised to support the ongoing war against the Islamist Boko Haram by sending a bill that would support the funding of Nigeria on arms purchase to Congress.

Mr Trump ended his call with an invitation to Buhari to visit at a time convenient to both leaders.

Mr Buhari is still on his extended medical vacation in London United Kingdom, with no knowledge of his arrival yet save in overstretched speculations.
