Tuface Protest And Matters Arising

Emelda: Ehee, Emeka, shey you know the protest is tomorrow. Are you going?

Emeka: (aghast) Which protest again?

Emelda: (surprise) Ahn ahn. The Tuface hardship protest, have you forgotten?

Emeka; Oh, you have not heard? It's been canceled. Tubaba himself canceled it.

Emelda left disappointed.

TUFACE IDIBIA is in the news again, after been so for the while that he made known a planned protest that would have been seen as a statement against the continuous hardship currently faced by Nigerians. He has reportedly canceled the protest billed to hold simultaneously in Abuja and Lagos on the 6th of February.

But then, what do we make of it?

When the popular Afro-hip hop singer and one of Africa's top musicians announced that he was staging an anti-government protest, he didn't just express a personal wish; far beyond that, he elicited a sprawling desire. This is considering the fact that he has established a massive following that has grown into a fanatical base.

As a musician that has carved for himself a niche in almost every heart, especially the young and most populous Nigerians with his contemporary musics, the African Queen crooner did strike an excitement, through his statement, that got most of this people-his fan base involved, wanting to share the pulse of their idol. Indeed, Tuface ought to have known this; it was very glaring.

But then, when he made his statement, he left that privacy, which his mind provides to make whatever conjecture therein a personal thing. With his intention made open, he lighted up a fire that burnt, sparking a widespread interest; his thought, now bared by spoken words, became a discourse, of course both amongst fans and non-fans.

He charged up a zeal, an interest, and everyone soon wanted to be part of the movement that verily identified with Tuface, the maximum celebrity. And then with seething interest hastily turned to a desirous hope, and when it was but a day or two, when the zealous people felt  what they had subscribed to was almost met, the same person, the same Tuface that had charged them up back down.

Tuface, in an Instagram press release told his bludgeoning supporters that he had backed out of the protest, citing possible hijack by opposing interest as reason. But did he envisaged his supporters to immediately tow the same lane, did he expect the inflamed passion to also back down?

Of course, he knew they were disappointed. They never expected him to draw them so close to the river and leave them. They were disenchanted, he should have continued to the end or he should have thought very well and never have taken such step.
